FLEAS: “ the details”
Fleas and in particular cat fleas which represent 95 out of 100
of the infestations we are asked to deal with, are a particularly
annoying pest as they not only feed on the blood of the host but
will take warm-blooded meals from anything in its vicinity.
Fleas can be vectors of disease and even transmit parisitic worms.

In many cases the people that we are visiting have spent large amounts of money
on products from the vets or pet shops that are unable to eradicate the
infestation. If they had come to us in the first place they would have saved
themselves a considerable amount of money and a lot of discomfort.

food source. After 2-3 weeks the larvae spins a silk cocoon in which the
development to adult takes place. The flea can stay in the pupa for long
periods and is “woken” from this stage by the vibration and body heat of
a passing meal. The flea will often over winter at this stage. The
development from egg to adult is normally about 4 weeks but will be much
longer in colder conditions - an adult can live for 18 months or so.
We achieve control by spraying with a residual insecticide; the product we
normally use will remain active for in excess of 6 months and give us
control within one visit. This is the most effective product that we have
ever used, eliminating the need for repeat treatments whist giving our
clients relief. Smoke bombs, which contain permethrin, may sound
impressive  but are designed for areas that are inaccessible to sprays and
areas  where people are unable to breathe the dust. Permethrin is a
product that has an open time of only 1 month allowing any late developing
pupae to continue their lifecycle.
